Chula Vista, CA – In preparation for construction, Birdzoff was contracted to install deterrents to prevent an osprey pair from rebuilding a nest on stadium lighting at a high school. All steps were taken under the guidance of an environmental biologist and in accordance with FWS regulations.
Problem: Inactive Nest
Birdzoff was tasked with designing a deterrent to prevent an osprey pair from returning to a previous nesting site to rebuild.
Installation
The product was successfully installed on the light pole. Concerns arose as the osprey pair returned looking for their nesting site.

Rebuild Attempts
The osprey pair was able to begin rebuilding by placing nesting material on top of the deterrent. It was determined the deterrent was not steep enough.
Final Installation
The nesting material was removed and replaced with a steeper model of the deterrent. The increased slope did not allow for nesting material to accumulate.
